Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNS): MLA Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi has introduced a private member bill aimed at banning the sale and consumption of liquor in Kashmir and other Muslim-majority districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Citing religious and societal concerns, Pardesi emphasized that the people of Kashmir do not support liquor consumption and that Islam strictly prohibits it.
Speaking about the bill, Pardesi stated that he had submitted it on the last possible day of the previous year, underscoring his commitment to ensuring that alcohol is removed from Kashmir. He clarified that while his proposal focuses on Muslim-majority areas, Hindu-majority districts can continue liquor sales if their communities find it acceptable.
"Our religion and society do not permit liquor consumption. The increasing accessibility of alcohol is negatively affecting our youth, leading to stress and addiction," Pardesi said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"This bill is an effort to protect our younger generation from falling into such habits."

During the meeting, Pardesi raised several key issues concerning his constituency, including the condition of GB Panth Hospital, the need for better sports infrastructure, and the status of stone quarries. He pointed out that loose material from stone quarries has been restricted to government departments, preventing locals from accessing it.
The MLA reiterated his commitment to addressing pressing public concerns and ensuring better governance for the people of Kashmir. (KNS)
