Uproar in J&K Assembly as Speaker Disallows Discussion on Waqf Amendment Bill

Jammu, Apr 7 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed uproar on Monday after the Speaker refused to allow a discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, citing the matter as sub-judice.

According to news agency KNS, the Speaker informed the House that the bill is currently under challenge in the Supreme Court and therefore cannot be debated.

The announcement triggered strong reactions, especially from NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq, who insisted that if the GST law introduced by the Centre was discussed in the Assembly, the same should apply to the Waqf bill.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

His demand was supported by legislators from the Congress and PDP, who attempted to storm the Well of the House but were restrained by marshals.

Amid the continuing ruckus, the Speaker adjourned the session for 15 minutes — marking the first such adjournment during the ongoing budget session. (KNS)
