J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Four Officials in Three Separate Bribery Sting Operations

 Udhampur/Rajouri, Jan 20 (KNS) ; The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested four government officials, including Public Works Department employees, a Patwari, and an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, in three distinct trap cases for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes.

 
According to an official statement issued to the Kashmir News Service (KNS), one case was registered at the ACB Police Station in Udhampur, while two cases were registered at the ACB Police Station in Rajouri.
 
In the first case, the ACB Udhampur acted on a complaint against Anil Jamwal, a Junior Assistant, and Jeet Kumar, a Computer Operator, both posted in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B), Udhampur. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe from a complainant for issuing a contractor card. Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the ACB.
 
Following a discreet verification that corroborated the allegations, the ACB registered FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was formed. The team successfully caught both accused red-handed while they were accepting a bribe of ?12,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. In the second case, the ACB Rajouri registered FIR No. 01/2026 based on a complaint against ASI Zamurat Manhas, posted at Police Station Mendhar. The complainant alleged that ASI Manhas, who was mediating a civil money dispute between the complainant and another individual, Abdul Qayoom, began demanding a bribe to settle the matter. The accused allegedly threatened to book the complainant under the Public Safety Act (PSA) if the bribe was not paid.
 
An ACB team laid a trap and apprehended ASI Manhas red-handed while he was accepting ?5,000 as a bribe. He was arrested on the spot. Searches were later conducted at his residential premises in Mendhar, Surankote, and Jammu.
 
The third case, registered as FIR No. 02/2026 at PS ACB Rajouri, involved Patwari Mohammad Razaq, posted in Patwar Halqa Sokar/Prori, Koteranka. The complainant alleged that the Patwari demanded a bribe for recording the names of his three daughters in the revenue records (Khasra Girdawari).
 
A team from ACB Rajouri caught the Patwari red-handed while he was accepting ?10,000 as a bribe. He was immediately arrested, and searches were conducted at his residence.
 
Further investigation in all three cases is underway. (KNS)
