Bandipora, Oct 19 (KNS):The Sheep Husbandry Department, Bandipore has created frozen semen bank facility for small ruminants at Kunan Bandipore.
The facility has currently availability of semen of four improved Dairy goat breeds namely Jamnapari, Sirrohi, Beetal & Barberi having high productivity with an average milk yield of 4 ltrs & high fecundity producing mostly twins & triplets.
The Goat population in the UT of JK is mostly non descript in nature with low productivity.
Dr Showkat, a veterinarian told KNS that the Department with the support of District administration Bandipore has Introduced Artificial insemination technique in small ruminants for the first time in the entire UT using frozen semen.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
"The technique has been standardized & has started showing results in farmers flocks. The technique will help to accelerate genetic gains in local inferior herds & increase farmers income.
One of the beneficiary said that credit goes to Govt and the Department for intruding this technology among goats which indeed will help the farmers boost economy,." he told. (KNS)
